February 10: Report Tips to Employer

If you are an employee who works for tips and got more than $20 in tips in January, you must report them to your employer using IRS Form 4070 by February 10. Your employer is obligated to deduct FICA and income tax withholding for these tips from your normal pay. If your regular earnings are inadequate to pay FICA and tax withholding, your employer will record the uncollected withholding in box 8 of your annual W-2. When you submit your annual return, you will be obligated to pay any uncollected withholdings.

February 18 - Last day to claim exemption from withholding

If you claimed an exemption from income tax withholding on the Form W-4 you provided to your employer last year, you must submit a new Form W-4 by this date to maintain your exemption for another year.
